Welcome to James Ward Elementary School where super learners make super leaders! Our super teachers and staff are working daily to improve teaching and learning here at JWES! My name is Suzanne Parker Doucet, and I am enjoying my eighth year as principal.
We are excited to become a member of the Leader in Me family. We received a $75,000 five-year grant to implement the Seven Habits of Happy Kids based on Steven Covey's Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. This program will help us fulfill our school’s mission to help super learners become super leaders! Staff members are teaching the Seven Habits of Happy Kids to your children: Habit 1: Be Proactive, Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind, Habit 3: Put First Things First, Habit 4: Think Win-Win, Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, then to be Understood, Habit 6: Synergize, and Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw. Ask your child to show you the Seven Habits Signals!
Over the years our school has seen tremendous improvements in technology as we have upgraded our Title I computer lab, installed interactive whiteboards in all classrooms, updated teacher classroom computers, and linked to the Internet in every room. We offer HeadSprout and Read Naturally (early reading programs), and Accelerated Reader along with three interventionists in our Reading Club and assistance for students who need help with math and behavior. Some of the special events at our school include Back To School Nights, Parent Visitation Days, Open House, Fall and Spring Book Fairs, Spring Literacy Fair, Family Reading Nights, Red Ribbon Week, Veterans Day Program, Christmas Sing-A-Long, Reading and Math Family Night in December, PBIS Reward Parties, Six Weeks Awards Programs, Easter Bonnet Parade, and the Mardi Gras Parade.

I serve as a lector and Eucharistic minister in Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church parish and as a baseball and basketball coach and scorekeeper in various leagues.
